Toronto Hedge Funds Summit: Panel Discuss about Investment Research
Toronto—November 07, 2006—A four-person panel of independent research firms discussed on diverse issues, such as hedge funds, mutual funds, private equity, venture capital, technology and research, and fixed income issuance, useful for hedge fund managers, research analysts, and financial press at the Toronto Hedge Funds Summit.
The discussion highlighted the current state of investment research as well as its future.
David Weild IV, President and CEO, The National Research Exchange and former Vice Chairman of the NASDAQ Stock Market, moderated the panel, which included Doug Atkin, CEO and President, Majestic Research; Scott Lichtman, COO, Nitron Advisors; Paul Spillane, CEO and President, Soleil Securities Group; and Paul Warme, Co-founder and Managing Principal, and Head of Research, Lusight.
Scott Lichtman noted that trends are evident for hard time in the future for the research industry and also said, “With the commoditization of traditional research and the decline of that economic model, I think we’re also seeing a significant reduction in coverage of smaller cap firms. The economics just aren’t there for the sell-side to provide as broad coverage as before. So instead people will come up with new economic models to address the ‘long tail of coverage.’”
